Well, that is dead salmon carcases and "parts" the bears left behind.  I'm sure that a salmon poking his head up through the water and seeing the carnage would think "holy mackeral, what happened here?"  At the start of the salmon run the bears will catch a salmon and just eat the belly of the fish, the bottom side.  That's only a small part of the fish but it contains the most fat and so he eats that and throws the rest of the fish aside.
