I caught this bird (I have no idea what kind it is) at Orange Beach on March 20, 2008.
I have since been told this is a Brown Pelican.

HDR; This and a few others were taken using high dynamic range methods. Basically take 3, 5 or 7 photos with your camera mounted on a tripod. Bracket the photos so that some are darker and others lighter than the usual exposure. You take them through Photoshop and blend the best tones of all the photos. With the right photos it's very nice and this one was taken almost at sunset as you can see.

I've had about as many comments about this photo as any I've ever taken. I was trying to process it in color and it just didn't work and I left it out of the mix. I came later and thought I should crop it tight and just show her face. Then I converted it to black and white and knew immediately that was the look for this photo. I got this through trial and error and luck. I have no idea who this woman is so if anyone knows please contact me. Photo comes from the 2007 Toys for Tots race. (Since then I've learned she is Allyson Moody from Mtg.)

Actually not a picture I took, my son took it on 3/15/08. I was out shooting and had 2 camera bodies and let him use one. Ended up being a good shot once I recovered the highlights. This is a cabin we have in a rural/remote area in Macon County.

A friend of mine told me how he tries to take at least one photo per day so he can a) learn and b) stay sharp with his skills. Plus I just wanted a place to put interesting photos or just photos I like for one reason or the other. This first photo was taken March 15, 2008 on some property we own which I discovered was on fire. It was a small brushfire started from a debris pile left alone to burn. You can see the pines are all bent due to the high winds. Believe it or not I put the fire out with my boots, the only thing I had, then I went and got help. Eventually we got it all under control.

Photoshop Corrections : I use this area to take photos from DPReview, fix them in photoshop and with other programs and repost there. You have to have a service like Smugmug to link back so other sites can see them. In other words, I didn't take these photos, I only tried to repair, correct or enhance them with varying degrees of success. So I didn't take the awful photos nor did I take the great ones!

Shamrock 5K, March 18, 2006 : Sorry about these photos. A few photos turned out great but at some point a setting was changed on the camera. I didn't realize it until I got home and started downloading the photos. I did what I could in photoshop but it can't work miracles!! I found it best to strip out the color and present them in black and while.

Auburn Classic Half Marathon 2003 : The Auburn Classic Half Marathon took place in mid-January. The temperature at the start of the race was a balmy 13 degrees. You may note that one photo shows a young man running in shorts and no shirt. Nevertheless, it was still 13 degrees and we don't do IQ tests before the races.

Your Bio

Well now my 2nd bio was over a year old so i figure it's time to change again. I have taken this much more seriously in 2008 and I've posted more than 2,600 photos on smugmug and add a few every few days. Many are several years old now it's helped me to take better photos. At this point I've taken about 12,000 photos. That's a ridiculous amount to some and a very small amount to a lot of photographers. Mostly, i hope I'm getting better.
That is me with my beloved Nikon 200-400 mm lens on my D300.
